I taught myself to sew on YouTube.

I never took any sewing classes or courses, I learned everything online! Just free videos, a machine from Walmart, and a lot of trial and error. So this is the stuff I wish I could watch if I was starting from zero again: where to start, what you actually need, and easy free patterns so your first project will go as smoothly as possible.

How to Sew for Beginners -How to use a sewing machine (Singer Sew Mate) - Sewing 101

Hi fashionistas! Here is part 1 in my series on how to sew for beginners! I wanted to go in depth on some sewing topics so that people with zero sewing experience can have a guide for all the basics you need to know to get into sewing! I want to ease the growing pains and confusion for beginner sewists so you can get into your sewing projects faster and easier! In this video I will be covering the basics of your sewing machine (mine is a Singer Sew Mate), how to wind your bobbin, and how to thread your machine. I also go in depth on the different buttons and settings on your machine so you know what each one means, as well as how and when to use each setting. I also talk about different sewing needles and needle sizes, and how you can choose a needle for your project! I hope this video is helpful, and stay tuned for my next video where I will be going over some of the basic stitches and techniques you should know when starting your sewing journey!

Astraea Halter Tank Top Tutorial

Let's sew the Astraea Halter Tank Top - an easy beginner sewing pattern and honestly one of the best first projects if you've been nervous about sewing with jersey or stretch fabric. This halter top sewing tutorial walks you through the whole process, and it's a quick and easy sewing project you can finish in an evening. The Astraea top is double layered, so it's fully lined and you can wear it without a bra. The halter straps are adjustable so you can tie it exactly where you want it, and the entire top is sewn right sides together and turned at the end - which means there is not one visible seam on the outside. That construction is what makes this such a forgiving beginner sewing project: every raw edge ends up hidden inside, so it still looks clean and professional even if your stitching isn't perfect yet, and even if you don't own a serger.

Hi fashionistas! Here is part 2 in my series on how to sew for beginners! I wanted to go in depth on some sewing topics so that people with zero sewing experience can have a guide for all the basics you need to know to get into sewing! I want to ease the growing pains and confusion for beginner sewists so you can get into your sewing projects faster and easier! In this video I will be covering the basic stitches you will need to know and how you can use them! I cover how you can use a zig-zag stitch to finish your seams if you don't have a serger, and why you need to use a zig zag stitch instead of a straight stitch on stretchy fabrics. I also show you how to use a basting stitch to create gathers.

How to Use PDF Sewing Patterns (Beginner Guide) | Print, Cut & Sew

Hi fashionistas! I wanted to post a little how-to video for using digital PDF sewing patterns! Because I post all of my sewing patterns digitally (much like other pattern-makers and sewists), I thought this would be useful to explain how to print and put together digital sewing patterns along with some tips and tricks! I'm trying to create lots of beginner sewing videos for people who don't know all the steps because often sewing videos can skip certain parts in the process that you might not understand or make mistakes on. This should help you start sewing you next project with no mistakes so you can make the cutest outfits!

Hi fashionistas! Here is a sewing tutorial and FREE pattern for the cowl neck top! This is a quick and easy sewing project that is perfect for beginners. This beginner sewing project has adjustable ties to make sure the top is easy to wear and fits exactly how you would like. I love the low neckline on this cowl neck for a sexy and mature look that can be worn to dinner or on a night out. This is one of my favourite sewing projects because of how simple and straightforward it is, while still having a professional finish. I love that this top has the seams all hidden within the top, providing a clean finish (and so you also don't have to hem it!)
