These are relaxed pull-on shorts with a 1.5" elastic waistband, side seam pockets and a faux fly front, cut with a 6" inseam. They suit anyone who wants an easy summer short in linen or cotton and would rather not fit a real zip fly.

Fabric and materials
Linen, linen blends, cotton, chambray, lightweight denim, twill, rayon, viscose and double gauze all work well here. I would skip heavy upholstery fabrics and stiff canvas, they stay too stiff for this shape.
Tools
- Sewing machine
- Universal needles
Notions
- 1.5" wide non-roll elastic
- High quality polyester thread
- Drawstring or twill tape for the waist ties, optional
What makes this pattern special
- Pull-on elastic waist with optional ties: comfortable to wear and quick to sew, with the drawstring there if you want the look without the fuss of a zip.
- Faux fly front: you get the look of a proper fly without installing one.
- Side seam pockets: deep enough to actually use, sewn into the side seam so nothing interrupts the front.
- Seam allowances marked throughout: 1/4" on most edges, 1/2" where the waistband joins the shorts, and 2" at the hem so you can fold it up 1" twice.
- Video tutorial: I walk you through every step on YouTube, free, so you can sew along with me.
